Trident University is our exclusive online knowledge base for our public entities filled with 1,393 (and growing!) courses for you and your employees. Our courses are complimentary to all policyholders and cover all types of trending topics to help keep your entity current and safe. From HR issues like sexual harassment to wrongful terminations, law enforcement topics from de-escalation to safety training, and auto fleet courses like distracted driving and preventive maintenance. You will surely find a training course that fits your public entity’s needs.

We recently chatted with Nella Cooper, Director of Human Resources for the City of Fayetteville. Nella is a caring director who is passionate about helping her city’s 150+ employees receive the training they need to be successful and comfortable in their positions. As a top user of Trident University, we were curious to learn how Trident University has met the needs of Cooper’s public entity.

If these classes were outside of Trident U, how much would they have cost you?

There is a federal mandate for training our employees on specific topics like sexual harassment, diversity, and public safety. If we were sending our employees to in-person classes, it would be about $2800 per 3-4 hour class.

How easy do you think Trident U is to use?

Our employees like the ease of it, that it’s based online, and that they can do it on their own time. The fact that the system allows them the flexibility to take the courses they need on their own schedule has been a stress relief for their schedules.

What’s your favorite thing about Trident U?

As mentioned, the ease of use at everyone’s own schedule. It allows the employees to work at their own pace, and fit the training in as needed with their other job responsibilities. Sometimes access to computers and equipment needed (like headphones) can be limiting, so allowing the employee to make their own schedule for training has been beneficial.

Have you seen a reduction in claims or issues since the training?

We think so, at least there has been a more professional atmosphere than before, making it a better and more comfortable work environment for everyone.

Is there anything more you wish Trident U could do for you?

I would like to see more classes on ethics for employees, internal and external customer service, telephone etiquette, and teamwork.

What do you feel is the best thing you’ve been able to bring to your organization from Trident U?

Each employee is spending a minimum of 6 hours a year on training they’re receiving from Trident U. The freedom it brings to all users by allowing them to go at their own pace on their own schedule.
