A Lesson in Risk Management?
In the past month, the precipitous collapse of iconic banking institutions has led to speculation regarding the impact on the innovation industry and economy at large, and suggestions that risk could be managed better at banks and as a matter of industrial strategy. Regardless of what history decides, innovators are traversing a period of unforeseen difficulty and the industry has lost a key proponent. The urgency of the mission remains, and we are hopeful the storm will be weathered.
As these events illustrate, a careful assessment of risk and proper mitigation structures are essential to guarantee successful execution of any project and to enable more efficient use of available capital – nowhere is this more true than in the commercialization and scaling of innovative solutions to the planet’s most pressing challenges. This, of course, is NER’s purpose, and every week we learn about dozens of new innovative, positive-impact projects and technologies. On the capital side, we see a recognition of this massive opportunity and great efforts to innovate and adapt to new regulatory structures.
The first quarter of 2023 has seen NER working to expand our offering within this evolving financial and regulatory ecosystem. We recently announced our partnership with Lummus Technology to provide insurance for their innovative waste recycling technology, and expect to announce new developments in Q2.
